Hi,
My Husband was adopted because his father James McMillan went to prison before he was born.
We found his mother easily because of his origional Birth certificate but because his Father wasn't put on there, we are continusly hitting brick walls.
The little bit of info we have on him is as follows:

Name: James McMillan (Jimmy)
Dob: we only have aprox year : 1939
Origionally from NZ
Manager of Bomaderry RSL club in 1970, Robbed the club and apparently went to Long Bay prison for it. He was about 31 at the time. And lived in Nowra NSW.

Both the now President and the treasurer remember him and the incodent but one of them remember him as a different name. Both of them said that he was either set up or took the wrap for it but neither men remember him going to prison for the offence, only that he was sacked for dishonest dealings.

The Nowra police told me I have to call criminal records,
Criminal records told me i have to get permission from the department whom put the records there.
I can't get the court manuscript or any details of it because apparently to get them, you need to have been a part of the case to begin with. Obviously I'm not.
To look at voting lists, I have to go to that area and look it up. Only problem is, I live in Queensland.
Where can I go from here???

I considered ringing all the J McMillan's listed on White pages but there are about 500 in Australia and 233 in NZ.

Are there any Private investigators out there with access to government data bases that could or would help me?
PLEASE can some one atleast steer me in the right direction?

I have been Searching for over a year now and just don't want to give up.

Depending on the records created at the time he was in New Zealand I may be able to locate some details. It may be worth calling a few of those 233.

Good Luck & Regards,
